Hire a Videographer; you’ll thank me later!
Hello world. Sorry I’ve been MIA. I was enjoying the last weeks of summer with the kidos. I hope you had a fun summer too! As summer passes and fall sneaks up, Engagement season will be in full swing with a blink of an eye. As you know, planning a wedding is a big task. The biggest task is finding your dream team. DO you know who will make the cut? One vendor that’s often overlooked are videographers. But I’m here to tell you…. You need them. Read on to see why videographers are vital to your wedding and why you need to consider them today!
During the initial consultation I love to learning about my couple’s vision and the feeling they are looking for. The perfect team of vendors can help make your wedding a day a dream come true. As we start discussing budget, expectations and vendors, one vendor always gets cut. Videographers L
But why? Most often it’s because of budget. I get it. I myself didn’t hire one due to budget constraints and let me tell you, I regret it.
In fact my friend and very talented cinematographer Sarah Villane of Wanderlust Video Productions did the same thing. She told her husband during their planning period “No one ever watches their wedding video, so we can cut that out of our budget.” It’s now the biggest regret we have of our wedding day. Our pictures were stunning, but there’s something special about what video captures.”
I asked her why she felt videography is important on a weddings day, she had lots to say.
Video encapsulates a moment from start to finish — the moment your groom lights up when he sees you walking down the aisle, when you’re laughing with your bridal party before the ceremony, the first dances with your parents. Wedding videographers even capture the moments you were too busy to see. My husband called me the day of in a panic because he couldn’t find his wedding suit; it’s a joke among us now, so I wish I could relive that moment again through a video.
Video captures the atmosphere of the wedding day; the sights and the sounds. You get to hear as everyone cheers when your spouse smashes the cake in your face. You get to see your parents’ faces when they see you for the first time in your wedding dress. The vows, sermons, speeches – they’re all videoed with clear audio to listen back to (and you’re so busy on your wedding day you’ll barely remember what people were saying).
Wedding videos these days are also artistic and beautifully put together. You’re not watching 30 minutes of people shuffling around or eating; you’re getting to see the best moments of your wedding day professionally edited and often including music in the background.
It’s my goal as a wedding cinematographer to deliver to couples a gorgeous wedding video with the highlights of their special day; a wedding video like I would have wanted. You will not regret hiring a wedding videographer; you’ll regret it if you don’t.
As you start to plan you’ll see there are a million pieces that make your wedding day special and being able to rekindle the feeling is something you only get with media. When talking with Zara Warlick of Jon Warlick Media during our style shoot, she said “Long after the food and cake is eaten. The flowers have wilted, the dancing has stopped and the mimosas and beer gone. Aside from your wedding photos being hung up on the walls of your new home, the wedding dress being preserved for your future daughter, your wedding video is the only tangible thing you would have left from your special day. You will want to see and relive those feelings!”
I 100% agree with Sarah and Zara, for someone who didn’t hire one; and my 1 year anniversary is coming I think back, I wish I had a video to watch.

My advice, do what’s right for your wedding but take good hard look at your budget. Try making Videography a must even if it’s only for the ceremony. You and your future children will love looking back it! It’s not the 80’s…. Media has advance and there is so much you can do with it.
