Being prepared for your initial consultation
Hello FALL and hello WEDDINGS! As we gear up for the Fall wedding season, a million or so guys & and gals are gearing up for the proposal of a life time. YEAH!!!!! This is defiantly my favorite time of year. Not because of all the leaves changing, but I get to meet so many new couples ready to commit their lives together. With that said you may be looking for a planner or at least a wedding coordinator. If you’re not considering reading this post before reading on, otherwise let’s talk about being prepared for your initial consultation.
Your initial consultation is a FREE meeting with a planner/coordinator of choice. An opportunity to find the right person to make your wedding dreams come true. But remember this a free consultation so let’s make the most of your time.
How to be prepared…
The first part of the meeting is getting to know each other. For me it’s the most important part of the meeting. Your planner should get to know you as a couple. They may ask questions like how you all met, how he/she proposed, what makes you happy being together, your favorite things to do, etc….
The second part is getting an idea of your wedding vision and details. We’ll discuss your budget and the real expectations verse your vision. Expected number of guests, your Bridal Party, etc. I like to learn what kind of style you envision i.e. romantic, rustic, & vintage, etc….? What are your particular style elements or details you have already chosen?
Third part, what is the most important element of your wedding? Examples: food, music, atmosphere, décor, guest enjoyment, venue, etc… Is this where you plan to send most of your Budget?
Fourth part, they should discuss what venue/ vendors you’ve already selected? Are you needing assistance or recommendations etc….
Lastly your planner/coordinator will discuss the following…
- A little about their business and their experience
- The type of compensation fee i.e. hourly, flat or percentage
- Different vendor referrals and they except kickbacks
- What the deposit requirements & payment schedule
- What vendor meetings will they attend
- Is there a team, will they be onsite, do they cost extra?
- Depending on package needs, the specifics of what their role is as the planner/coordinator, meetings, etc?
- Communication (Phone, email, in person)
- The total hours during the day of the wedding the planner will be onsite and responsibilities that day
- Wedding meal requirements
There you have it! Everything you should be discussing during your consultation. It’s important to be prepare in order to make the most of your time. Before you leave ensure all your questions were answered, if you have and you leave unsure then that planner wasn’t the right fit for you.
Your wedding is a once and a life time and having the right planner/coordinator that communicates well, has great partnerships with vendors and sees your vision from the begin will help make your day stress free and fun.
